High School Learning Support in Nashville

High school students are expected to manage more on their own. Assignments get longer, deadlines stretch out, and teachers may assume students will advocate for themselves. For teens with learning differences, ADHD, dyslexia, autism, anxiety, or executive function challenges, this can be the point where they fall behind fast.

Benton Hall Academy supports many high school students with IEPs and 504 plans. We focus on helping students access learning while building habits and skills that increase independence over time.

What Families Often Notice in High School

Strong understanding in class but poor grades due to missing work

Anxiety spikes around tests, presentations, or grades

Difficulty starting essays or managing long-term projects

Avoidance, shutdowns, or "I do not care" masking discouragement

Support that Builds Independence

High school support should not feel like "hand-holding." It should feel like a clear system students can rely on while they learn to manage school demands.

Support may include:

  • Clear expectations and predictable routines

  • Planning supports for deadlines and long-term projects

  • Task chunking with checkpoints

  • Accommodations such as extended time or alternative formats

  • Adjustments when appropriate to reduce overwhelm while keeping learning goals in focus

  • Frequent check-ins and feedback loops that keep students on track

Support varies by student. During admissions, we review records and meet with families to confirm fit and plan supports.

Preparing for What Comes Next

Every student is different, and "what comes next" can mean different things. The most important goal is that students leave high school with:

  • Confidence that they can do hard things

  • A realistic understanding of how they learn best

  • The ability to advocate for themselves and use supports

Stronger organization and time management habits
